 Angkor Wat Sunrise is one of the most breathtaking experiences in Cambodia. Arriving before dawn, we make our way to one of the best sunrise spots beside the reflecting pools. As the darkness gradually fades, the sky comes alive with beautiful shades of pink, orange, gold, and purple.

As the first rays of sunlight appear behind Angkor Wat’s iconic lotus-shaped towers, the magnificent temple is reflected beautifully in the calm water, creating an unforgettable and highly photogenic scene.

At the sunrise spot, take your time to capture stunning photographs, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, listen to the morning birdsong, and admire the timeless beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After sunrise, we begin exploring Angkor Wat’s magnificent galleries, courtyards, towers, and intricate bas-reliefs, while learning about its fascinating history, remarkable architecture, Hindu and Buddhist heritage, and spiritual significance.

Angkor Thom – The Great Ancient Capital

Our journey continues to the impressive South Gate of Angkor Thom, the last great capital of the Khmer Empire.

The monumental entrance is surrounded by enormous stone figures of gods and demons holding the body of the great serpent, representing the legendary Churning of the Ocean of Milk.

Bayon Temple – The Temple of Smiling Faces
Discover the mysterious and magnificent Bayon Temple, famous for its monumental towers decorated with serene stone faces traditionally associated with Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. Explore its intricate bas-reliefs depicting scenes of ancient Khmer life, battles, ceremonies, and mythology.

Baphuon Temple
Admire this spectacular 11th-century temple, an impressive example of Khmer pyramid architecture that predates Angkor Wat. Its massive sandstone structure demonstrates the remarkable engineering skills of the ancient Khmer civilization.

The Reclining Buddha
Discover the enormous reclining Buddha figure located on the rear side of Baphuon, reflecting the later Buddhist history of the temple.

Royal Enclosure
Explore the area associated with the ancient royal palace complex and learn about the royal life of the Khmer kings.

Terrace of the Elephants
Walk along this magnificent ceremonial platform, decorated with detailed elephant carvings and once used by the Khmer kings to observe royal processions and public ceremonies.

Terrace of the Leper King
Admire the intricate carvings and mysterious sculptures of this remarkable terrace, which offers another fascinating glimpse into Angkor’s artistic heritage.

Ta Keo & Ta Prohm – Temples in the Jungle

Leaving Angkor Thom, we continue to Ta Keo, an impressive mountain temple built primarily from sandstone. Its powerful stepped-pyramid design rises dramatically above the surrounding landscape and represents the bold architectural style of the Khmer Empire.

We then continue to the world-famous Ta Prohm Temple, one of the most atmospheric temples in Angkor.

Often called the “Jungle Temple,” Ta Prohm has been left largely intertwined with its natural surroundings. Giant silk-cotton and strangler fig tree roots grow over ancient walls, galleries, and doorways, creating a spectacular relationship between nature and architecture.

Ta Prohm became internationally famous after being featured in the movie Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. Its mysterious jungle setting makes it one of the most memorable and photogenic temples in Cambodia.

Banteay Kdei Temple

Continue to Banteay Kdei, a peaceful Buddhist temple complex surrounded by trees and vegetation. Explore its atmospheric corridors, galleries, courtyards, and beautifully weathered stone structures.

Banteay Kdei offers a quieter and more relaxing experience while providing another fascinating insight into the religious architecture of the Khmer Empire.

Prasat Kravan

Our final temple visit is Prasat Kravan, a unique 10th-century brick temple dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu.

The temple is especially remarkable for its beautifully carved brick bas-reliefs, which are unusual among the temples of Angkor. It provides a fascinating contrast to the large sandstone monuments visited throughout the day.
